Greg Ross, Head of the Physical Education faculty, and his wife Kaye were part of the winning Waka Ama team in the longest outrigger canoe race in Australia, the Gold Coast Cup. The Gold Coast Cup has been raced for annually for fifteen years and is an important event in the outrigger canoe world.
The race was held on 28 May. They won the mixed division six minutes ahead of the Australian team they had hired their boat from. They completed the 43 km long ocean course in 3h 16 m.
