Chamber Music - June 2012
Karamu continued its fine tradition in the regional Chamber Music competition, held 15-18 June. Pentafuse ’12, a percussion group, made the cut into the final performance on Sunday night. The percussion group of Year 10 students Acacia Hapi and Trent Wehi along with Year 12 students George Mitchell, Jovaan Mataroa, and Tejasvin Dosanjh were awarded Highly Commended. They were also awarded the KBB prize for percussion and each student received a $50 music voucher. The group performed Strange Fiction, a wonderful piece composed by percussion tutor Cameron Budge.
In addition Year 12 cellist Pien Kerckhoffs was part of the winning group Dreamscape Quartet. This talented group was made up of students from a number of schools. They played a stunnig piece composed by group member and flautist, Marcus Jackson.
Karamu had two other groups compete: Brassed Off and Di Viaggio. Fifty-seven groups from Hawkes Bay secondary schools competed in the heats for the eight places in the final performance.
