Hockey Success
Hockey has started very well for the teams at Karamu this year. All teams- the Boys 1st XI, the Girls 1st XI and the Boys 2nd XI - have enjoyed many convincing wins.
The 1st XI teams are building towards competing in the National Secondary School Tournaments in August.
Five students have played for Hawke's Bay representative teams: Steffan Paton, Ben Taylor, Bryce Watson, Kezia Taylor and Laura Wills.
In the case of Steffan, he was a member of the victorious Hawke’s Bay Under 18 Hockey team that won the national tournament in Christchurch during the July holidays.
This is the first time for many years that a Hawke’s Bay age group rep team has won a national title. The coach of this team is none other than our Sports Coordinator, Mr Todd Astill. The school is very proud of their achievements.
On the last day of Term 2, Karamu High School was delighted to learn that two of our students had been selected by AFS International to be part of a worldwide contingent of 60 young people to visit Japan.
For the second year in a row, a chamber music group from Karamu High School has won the Hawke's Bay Secondary Schools’ Chamber Music Competition.
Karamu is very pleased to have Ms Anna Mackenzie, a prominent Hawke's Bay author as our 2010 Writer in Residence.
