Writer in Residence Project
Karamu is very pleased to have Ms Anna Mackenzie, a prominent Hawke's Bay author as our 2010 Writer in Residence.
Anna has recently released Ebony Hill, the second novel in the trilogy that began with The Seawreck Stranger.
HOD English, Ms Jo Morris, has coordinated a number of workshops where Anna has elaborated on the techniques writers use to initially draft and then edit stories into a final version.
A group of senior writers, who were nominated to attend these workshops, have gone on to apply this knowledge in the creation of short stories to enter in the Katherine Mansfield and Sunday Star Times short story competitions.
Junior writers workshops are about to begin this term.
On the last day of Term 2, Karamu High School was delighted to learn that two of our students had been selected by AFS International to be part of a worldwide contingent of 60 young people to visit Japan.
For the second year in a row, a chamber music group from Karamu High School has won the Hawke's Bay Secondary Schools Chamber Music Competition.
Hockey has started very well for the teams at Karamu this year. All teams- the Boys 1st XI, the Girls 1st XI and the Boys 2nd XI - have enjoyed many convincing wins.
Clay Target Shooting is enjoying considerable success this year and the results during Term 2 at local and regional competitions showed consistent improvement
